• ABDOMINOPLASTY
Tummy tuck is a surgical procedure performed on both women and men to address loose skin and extra fat in the abdominal area. This distressing change in appearance can result from many causes, among them, weight loss, aging and changes after childbirth. There is an encouraging solution however to overturn this aesthetically challenging situation. The good news is that the muscles of the abdominal wall can be tightened, resulting in an overall improvement in the appearance of the abdomen and waistline.
Dr. Wilensky’s goal during abdominoplasty surgery is to make both a flatter and firmer abdomen. During his consultation with you, Dr. Wilensky will discuss your goals and the results you would like to achieve, to determine if the tummy tuck is an appropriate procedure for you.
The abdominal area is examined to assess the quality of the skin and the location of any scars from previous abdominal operations. Another consideration is the amount of loose skin and extra fat, and the condition of the underlying muscles of the abdominal wall. Often, the vertical “washboard” abdominal muscles are lax, particularly after pregnancy. It is possible to tighten these muscles internally by bringing them closer together. An additional pleasing result will be the affect of narrowing the waistline. For women who have undergone Caesarean section, Dr. Wilensky can, during the operation, often utilize the previous scar or revise that scar for a more pleasing outcome.
The best candidates for the tummy tuck are adults who are in good health, close to their ideal body weight, and moderately physically fit. A tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or an exercise program; however, it can certainly improve the contour of the abdomen in patients who have tried diet and exercise, but have not seen the improvement they had hoped for. Abdominoplasty can achieve that.
A complete abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia, and typically takes from three to four hours. Dr. Wilensky performs the tummy tuck in his office-based surgical facility. The majority of patients are able to have this procedure as outpatients, and can return home the same day.
