• BREAST REDUCTION
Large breast size can cause a variety of physical symptoms, including chronic back and neck pain and difficulty fitting into clothing. Self-esteem issues are not uncommon as well.
Breast reduction is a beneficial operation because it improves the ongoing physical side effects of large breast size, while aesthetically restoring the shape and size of the breasts. Dr. Wilensky’s goal during breast reduction surgery is to make the breast size more proportional to the rest of the patient’s body. Of all of the procedures performed in plastic surgery, breast reduction ranks among the highest in patient satisfaction. Breast reduction corrects the patient’s physical concerns, and creates a pleasing outcome.
Dr. Wilensky performs breast reduction using a variety of techniques. The most common method requires three incisions. One incision is around the nipple, vertically from the bottom of the nipple to the natural crease beneath the breast, and then horizontally beneath the breast, following the natural crease.
During your consultation, Dr. Wilensky will discuss your goals and the results you would like to achieve. The patient-surgeon dialogue helps determine if breast reduction may be appropriate for you. Your personal and family breast health history will be carefully reviewed. During the physical examination, the breast area will be examined. This serves to assess the breast itself, the size and shape as well as the quality of the skin. Along with various other parameters, this physical examination allows Dr. Wilensky to determine the precise technique that will provide the most optimal outcome.
The best candidates for breast reduction are women who are in good health, close to their ideal body weight, and moderately physically fit. A breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia, and may take from three to four hours. Dr. Wilensky performs breast reduction in his office-based surgical facility, and the procedure is generally performed on an outpatient basis.
